ROOTING BOXWOODS

Have you ever rooted boxwoods? Now is the time to do it-June, July and August seems to work best for rooting evergreens. Cut of a piece about 6 to 8 inches long and strip the botton leaves. I just stick mine in the ground in a shady place that doesn't dry out  too much. They will be rooted by spring, when you can transplant, though most of the time I don't transplant until the fall-I hate watering and if you transplant in fall  you don't have to water as much. I guess you coould plant from seed, though I never have. See the little seed pods on the bush above. I would pick them and put them in the fridge, so they can go through a cold period-and then plant them in the spring.

  1. I rarely root things. I need to do it more often.

But so far have lots of volunteers to help keep the flower beds filled up.

  2. Happened across your blog while visiting Lady Katherine's blog and enjoyed it so much. Was good to see news from home. I currently live near Birmingham AL, but Leesburg and Barefoot Springs in Rankin County are home. Hope to get back there to retire in a few years.
